Uni to face Freo CBC under lights at South Fremantle oval to celebrate 100 years of Amateur Football
This year, the Perth Football League is celebrating 100 years of Amateur Football in Western Australia. Over the month of May, there will be a celebration of football, culminating in a Friday night blockbuster for the ages.
Uni have been around for well over 100 years, with the first University side taking the field in 1911. Since then, the club has been a mainstay in the A-grade competition, amassing 20 premierships, to go with the 79 flags won by the lower grades (or 80, it depends who you ask). This success is unrivalled in the league, state or country.
This on-field success goes with an enviable list of alumni, shown in the West Australian’s 100 most prominent Amateur Footballers, with 30 University players featured on the list. This includes prominent figures such as Richard Goyder AO, Dr Bruce Robinson, Michael Salmon and Neil Donaldson.
The University A-Grade side will host Fremantle CBC at South Fremantle Oval.
